Myth 13: You Must be a Perfectionist
Posted by Hendry Lee on 08/31/06 in Business Blogging
Once a blog post was published on the Internet, it is actually accessible globally. For this reason, it is easy to think that if you are to consider blogging, everything has to be perfect before you can publish it.
Actually, the truth is somewhat the opposite.
Let me elaborate.
It is true that a blog, just like a website, represents your business in the World Wide Web. So, everything you say is going to reflect you. When reading and interacting with a blog, people will think they are reading and talking to you. At least with a closer bond compared to a conventional website. It is that powerful.
But the truth is, a blog also injects a human factor into your business, making it more alive. That what makes it powerful. People appreciate the responsiveness and the kind of relationships created all over the blog.
Not the perfect writing. Nor the excellent design.
Those help to establish credibility and professionalism, but a blog is far more than just about design and writing. Otherwise, there is no need for a blog but ordinary website.
If you read a blog long enough, you will notice that people like to put comment on blogs, especially where the community has been established. Other bloggers also like to link to others.
All of them constantly argue, rebut, expound, complement or even just express their agreement about particular blog post. All of those matter much more to a blog. And, none of them are characteristics of a perfect blog.
Afterall, no business would have to accept feedbacks from their customers or prospects if they are perfect.
Building relationships and show your honesty and integrity involve long term process that could be achieved well with a blog. You can’t be an island; everything to everyone.
Realize that people are more forgiving than what you have probably imagined. It is wise to learn how to overcome different situations, especially bad ones and keep your blog going. Even if you have done something incorrectly, it is not the end of the world.
That’s what makes a business blog. It is actually operated by human, not by an unknown or faceless company who even too proud to admit they have done something wrong.
