Gawker’s Blogs to Appear in Yahoo! News

Yahoo Inc. has agreed to distribute Gawker Media’s blogs in Yahoo! News, of which reported by David A. Vise in Washington Post as spicing up its nws and entertainment ofering with irrelevant content.

Nick Denton, who owns Gawker emphasized that he was licensing the network of blogs, instead of selling to Yahoo!. Nick harshly criticized Weblogs Inc. for their move to sell out to America Online.

Denton added that Yahoo’s mammoth size, with tens of millions of viewers, would dramatically expand the potential audience for his bloggers, who have loyal followings but remain unknown to mainstream Internet users.

“Yahoo has developed a certain weird geek chic,” Denton said. “Their philosophy is just edgy enough.”

Five Gawker Media Web sites to be featured on Yahoo! are Gizmodo (gadgets and consumer electronics), Wonkette (politics), Defamer (Hollywood news and gossip), Lifehacker (reviews of Web sites and tips to save time), and Gawker (Manhattan’s mainstream media).
