Based on online lookups, according to Merriam-Webster, blog is the #1 Word of the Year for 2004. That should relate to the popularity of blog and blogging. Steve Rubel of Micro Persuasion brought up the issue about splog, originally written by Steven Levy in Newsweek. To summarized, Levy was fed up with sploggers clogging up his Technorati results.
