Blogs Replacing Websites?

Unique Square Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm, founded in 1998, has turned its site into a blog, writes BL Ochman in her blog.
They thought about updating their thesis, but realized that their thesis evolves incrementally and could find themselves in the same place six months from now. So the best way to do that is by blogging, which allows them to publish the conversation.
Blog can be very useful in dynamic business situation where the flow of information is happening on a daily basis and the website should be kept up-to-date. Nothing can be easier than publishing with a blog.
The migration doesn’t always easy though. Think about how to safely move the documents from old URLs to the new ones. If done carelessly, old links may not work anymore and this will only cause lost of prospects and customes. Not to mention about the search engine traffic that may disappear overnight.
Building popularity from scratch may take too much effort. Google may put the site into sandbox again. Redirection doesn’t always work flawlessly. Even some search engines have troubles and bugs while handling redirections.
Due to these reasons and others, existing companies tend to build blogs on top of their existing website or instead use a different domain for blogs. I recommend a real domain rather than a subdomain on blog hosting domain for many reasons. But that is for an article post, not a short thought like this one.
My take on this: traditional, static website is not going away anytime soon. It may even be here for very long time to come because they serve entirely different purpose than a blog. Why remove it when blog has the capability to be built on top of the existing infrastructure?
